A Florida homeowner sold her house as an NFT for 210 ETH (around 654k USD) last Thursday 2/10! Bidders had to provide identification and their full name before participating in the auction held by Propy (a real estate transaction platform that sells houses on the blockchain) to authenticate house ownership; at the end, the successful buyer was supposedly someone from the US nicknamed A.J.
Leslie Alessandra who is a realtor as well as the founder of DeFi Unlimited
was the one who helped her clients auction off their house. According to the current popularity of the virtual currency market, auctioning one’s own house in the form of a NFT can indeed increase its visibility. Propy CEO Natalia Karayaneva says she hopes that NFT technology can put real estate assets into the hands of the next generation instead of institutional investors. Though acquiring a NFT right now has to be done through purely cash transactions, crypto-lending or crypto-backed mortgages could be introduced in the future.
